Our HVAC friend recommended that we consider the Trane CleanEffects system. We have terrible allergies (to the point of replacing wall-to-wall with hardwood) and he thinks it's a great system. We currently use Honeywell room purifiers, however they are really loud and my husband hates it. Since Honeywell is a brand I use and trust, I am trying to find out if there are significant performance and cost differences between the two. From what I gather from the Trane marketing material is that the Trane filter is non-porous creating less pressure drop. Beyond that, I don't know what the difference is in air quality or cost. So I guess I have three questions:
What are the performance differences?
What are the cost (unit, installation, filters) differences?
If you use either of these systems in your own home, what do you love/hate about it?
We have a building near busy streets and construction. No matter how often, how much, how intensely we run the vacuum we can't seem to get a handle on the dust.
Is there an inexpensive, great air purifier out there to really filter out the airborne dust?
I am NOT interested in all the latest spin and snake oil bells and whistles. I just want dustless air.
Additionally, are there air purifier systems with reusable or washable filters that anyone might recommend?
I had a honeywell air purifier that required regular replacements of filters. The filters were to each! I would love a system where I simply give the filter a wash or clean out some some compartment and violla!...the dust is gone and the machine is ready to run!
Are there any like this and do they really work?
the dust removal is the key. Sometimes air dust is bad enough to make you choke on it! Like when you blow leaves in august without a mask...

My furnace has a Honeywell electrostatic air cleaner (black magic air cleaner, witchcraft air cleaner? It doesn't seem to do anything). I am pretty sure that this thing is not effective at all. My question is; is there any way that I can remove and replace this with a standard pleated air cleaner by myself (without the aid of a 00 dollar an hour HVAC contractor)? Is there pre made filter boxes available that aren't real expensive? I am mechanically inclined too, just not hugely knowledable in the HVAC department.
I have a Honeywell F300A Electronic Air Cleaner attached to the forced air intake at my home. When the unit is in operation I hear a popping sound which I always took to mean that it was simply the sound of the incoming forced air being cleaned.
Lately however the popping sounds started to get more frequent. So I cleaned the cells on the air cleaner in my dishwasher and vacuumed the pre-filters clean. But this does not really seem to have helped any, i.e. I am still hearing the constant popping while the air cleaner is in operation.
Is this normal? Or is this something I should be taking care of? If its the latter then what could the problem be?

I have a HEPA air filter. It has a button on it, which turns on the optional "ionizer" feature. The system is made by Honeywell (actually a company called Kaz, which sells it under the Honeywell name.)

I have a Honeywell 360 Surround Heat space heater that has been in storage for the past year. I need to use it, but there is dust, hair, and lint stuck in the air intake at the bottom of the tower. I've tried using a blowdryer to no avail. The instruction manual says you only need to clean the outside and that the heater doesn't disassemble, so I have no idea how to get the crap out of it! I live on the coast in a valley and my house has a lot of mold I suspect between the walls. He gets asthma issues nightly, and I have been having sinusitis and pressure behind my eyes, muscle aches etc. We are otherwise healthy, young and vibrant but since living here for 8 months, we have really been getting sick. Do you think that a Honeywell air purifier would help to eliminate the mold? What can we do? To live here is expensive so we cant just move and our jobs are here. I was given a HoneyWell 52500 air purifier a while back from a friend. I'm not sure how much it was used or if the filter or pre-filter was replaced because his parents gave it to him.

I just bought a Honeywell Air Purifier off of craigslist.com. It works fine but gives off a subtle smell of the house where I bought it from. It bothers me! The ads online for the air purifier say you don't replace the filters but merely wash them. How do I do so? Just run them under water?
well our family have a honeywell air cleaner. and we have no use of it no more. so we were thinking about just putting it on our drive way to see whats the best offer. the thing is that we dont know if its illegal or what not. cuz in minnesota u have to register something for garage sales.
