Some companies charge around for a "whole-house" special. Others have quoted close to 0. What's the difference between them--and does air-duct cleaning really do any good? We have one cat, lots of dust in the house, and one member of the family with asthma. Plus, we had our basement finished a couple years ago, which I'm sure resulted in drywall dust getting into the ducts.
I don't have asthma, but I have very harsh reactions to the spray air fresheners my coworkers use. The bathroom is right by my office door and every time someone uses it, it is sprayed. I keep my window open, however I still get itchy eyes and a cough that lasts well into the evening when I am back at home. It's very hard to breathe.
I don't want to cause a fuss because I am just the summer student here. But I don't know how to bring it up. Is clean air too much to ask for?

I'm in the market for an air purifier and I'm not sure which kind I should get. I've taken a look at some, and I'm not sure which would fit my needs. I first took a look at some HEPA filters, since I know they filter 99.99% of air particulates. But I also knew that they're usually loud, you have to change the 0 filter every other month and they take up a lot of energy. I saw a Kenmore Envirosense filter and though it looked nice, but still; the hassle with expensive filters and energy. Before I go on, I should say the men in my family (My dad, brother and me) all have asthma, so we need something that would help with that. We also took a look at some models over at Brookstone. We found a Pure-Ion Advanced Air Purifier. The thing was ugly, but it worked, saying you would have 80% cleaner air in about 8 minutes. This isn't a HEPA filter, but it had a fan. They say this one helps with asthma, but I'm not sure. Another one from Brookstone was the Blueair HEPA filter, one that was more
impressive than the Pure-Ion. This one came in a tabletop form, but still, the filters and the whopping price tag of 0.
Anyways, after that, we went to the Oreck store because we heard about some kinda amazing deal on TV, letting us try an Oreck Air purifier, vacuum, and a refrigerator purifier. one of Oreck's points was "You can't clean the air if you can't move it", which made perfect sense to me, but there was one trick up my sleeve that made me think otherwise. Anyways, the Oreck one was impressive, requireing no filters and taking up much less noise and space and eating less eletricity than HEPA filters. However, when compared other filters like this one, it ranked the lowest, but I've never tried it, so I really wouldn't know. After that, came our last stop which would be the trick up my sleeve. We went into The Sharper Image immediately seeing their crown acheivement, the Ionic Breeze Quadra, the purifier I had heard about long before the other filters, so I had somewhat of a bias towards it. Like many other purifiers, these use ions and electrons and stuff like that to clean the air
And it game in multiple models, the Tabletop version, the MIDI, the Quadra, the GP, and the Hybrid GP, which is some huge powerful air purifier. The GP caught my eye because It offered deep cleaning without an over-the-top price tag. These however, don't use fans. So I had no clue how it was cleaning all the air. An explanation from you guys would be helpful. If you guys have owned or used these fiulters, please tell me and how you liked them. Especially if it help with your asthma.

I have been told that HEPA filter is good to keep bedroom free from allergens, is this correct? I suffer from asthma and running nose possibly I have rhinitis too. thanks for help

I have researched different filtration systems and I believe that some of them may still emit ozone even though they don't specifically say. Has anyone used a particular one with an Umbrella Cockatoo and/or a Severe Macaw? This is a serious matter to me because I have asthma and I love my birds, so please, no puns or jokes. Thank you.

Even if Global Warming proves to be an incorrect hypothesis, why are so many people against stricter pollution controls? After all, EVERYONE would benefit from cleaner air, not just environmentalists. I would like to see a reduction in asthma and other pollution related illnesses and I'm sure my grandchildren would as well. So why all the opposition to a cleaner environment?
Dojoman, explain the rollbacks by the Bush administration of all those environmental laws you listed. All the progress made since the 70's is being reversed in the name of profits. Explain the current state of the Superfund. You are the one that needs to do some homework!
I just want to know whats a better, longer lasting purifier I can get. I really liked it and I have asthma so they make it alot easier to breathe but I just don' t want one that'll die in a year, especially since the ionic pros were over a 0 a piece. Please give me suggestions. Thank you

My 2 1/2 year old has asthma. So i need to buy a purifier for the room. Which one is the best kind? And I heard the Ozone kind are suppose to be bad for you, so I want to make sure I don't buy one of those. Please tell me your experience.
How about Sunbeam air cleaners. Has anyone ever heard of them? My husband has a really old one and says it will work find, but I don't know. I can't even find the model online.
