Hi,
My apartment smells like smoke, I occasionally smoke inside, usually cigarettes and hookah. I'm looking for an small and compact air cleaner or air purifier that will get rid of the smell, during my hookah sessions. I have an medium budget, 20-60 dollars, but the unit has to be relatively small and so I can hide it, or put it in the closet.

My basement does not have any air-conditioning ducts, but the apartment does come with a dehumidifier. I often keep my windows closed. I always, always have dust bunnies. I don't think there's much air circulation. Should I get an air purifier like this:

thanks for the tips!

I have heard that placing plants inside your house will create fresher air and even remove some of the toxins in the air such as formaldehyde and acetone. Any recommendations of what house plants I should pick up to naturally make my apartment air cleaner? Any other all natural recommendations for keeping my house smelling good and the air fresh?

I think that I may be sensitive to outdoor dust near my apartment but I want to maintain fresh air exchange (otherwise it gets "stuffy"). Recently I've thought of putting an electrostatic air conditioner filter (3M Filtrete) to cover my windows (it only costs per filter and it's said to last 2 months). While the filter should reduce airflow somewhat I think I'll still be able to get enough air exchange with it.
Question: If any water/humidity comes into contact with the filter (the filter was originally designed for an air conditioner) will that cause it to lose its electrostatic properties (ie. will it become less effective at trapping dust?).
Is there anything else I should consider before putting in the filter (any undesired effects?)??

Hi Everyone,
First time using this, and it's because I'm desperate for help.
My Question is this:
My roomate who lives with me, always stays in his room (yes its terrible), and the thing is he often eats takeout in his room and doesnt throw it away right away, so it starts to smell up his room, and it leaks into the apartment. I've asked him to clean up more often but being in university, hes often busy which is understandable.
So I've tried the plug in air fresheners but I think MASKING the problem isn't effective as solving it. I want to know if anyone has any good recommendations for a machine that effectively eliminates ODORS as the top priority?
I'm a bit confused as to whether air cleaners / air purifiers actually tackle the odor issue as well? For example, the Surround Air XJ2100 or the Ionic Breeze. Most of these focus on cleaning the air from allergens etc., not really the ODOR in the air.
Hope you guys can help. Thanks so much!

I live in an apartment in the middle of the city and my room gets dusty really easily. I have to vacuum and dust almost everyday. I'm thinking about getting an air purifier purely for the sake of removing the dust. I don't have any pets, or any allergies. Is it worthwhile investing in an air purifier for that sake?

My apartment is very dry. It was suggested to me to purchase a humidifier. I have also been looking at air purifiers. What really is the main differences between them. What would you recommend.
Thanks,
Lynn

The filter in my air conditioning/heating unit (in my apartment) is extremely dirty. Maintenance is supposed to come and change them once a month, but I guess they haven't gotten around to it this month. I plan on getting a new one soon, but I'm wondering - is it possible to clean them somehow, until I get a new one?
I've noticed that since it has been dirty, the system is much louder (running the heat OR the a/c). Could this be due to the dirty filter, or may there be something else wrong with the system?

I just moved and the apartment I live in is effecting my asthma because of mold. I cannot move at the moment and the only thing I can think of is to get an air purifier.
I just moved into an apartment and I have asthma. Something in that apartment is effecting my asthma. The first thing that my doctor suggested is that there might be mold in the apartment. I cannot see any mold anywhere. We also repainted the apartment, do you think that may be the problem. Would an air purifier help in any way?

I live in an apartment here and I am getting sick of all this crap from other people's cooking. It's an older building and they won't look into it.
I read HEPA is a better purifier but I don't know if it would stop smells from coming in my front door... it is shut so don't give me stupid stuff about shut your door, just too old of a building (renovation they are doing doesn't help).
Smells only hit me in the living room/dining room... about 350 sq ft I need to protect from smells.
Will a HEPA do this?

I'm in need of a HEPA mask or respirator because there's asbestos in my apartment. I've tried Lowe's and Home Depot and various pharmacies, but I haven't been able to find one. Does anyone know what kind of store would sell them or a particular store in Denver that would have them?
