My air-ducts are rusting in 2 places for sure. They are also very nasty. I just vacuumed a bunch of dust out of the parts my vacuum hose can reach. Sometimes I see particles coming up out of my ducts. My townhouse is about 15 yrs old. I'ld like cleaner air ducts. Should I ask my landlord?

We moved into a brand new house about 15 months ago. The air ducts near the opening appear to have some dirt, or saw dust in them. Nothing too bad, but it makes me wonder if having our aur ducts cleaned out may help improve the AC and even the air quality. How often should I have a professional come out and clean the ducts?
Just bought an older house. When we turn on the whole house fan, even with lots of windows open, some air is still drawn through our vents. This causes severe alergy attacks for my wife. The previous owners never had the furnace serviced, weren't the cleanest people, and had several cats. I can only imagine how nast all of the air ducts are. I was thinking about making my own but that would require some hard work finding the materials I need for my idea. Anyone know of any flexible mop of some sort, or a brush that may be used to clean deep into ducts? I'd rather look into doing it myself before hiring some "pro" with a big vacuum.
Oh, it's supposed to be...
Anyone know of any affordable tools to clean out air ducts?
I just moved in a house that hasn't had the air ducts clean in a while. We don't have the money to pay for them to be cleaned yet and my husband and daughter have allergies. I need to know what I can do to help out until we can afford it.
